Reliable for trail running

I've been using Outdooractive for about three years now, mainly for trail running routes and the activity tracking. I just renewed my Pro+ subscription, and it was as easy as always. The consistency is what keeps me coming back; the maps are always up-to-date, and the app works reliably. I usually download maps offline for areas with spotty cell service, and that feature has never failed me. It integrates pretty well with my Garmin device too, which is a big plus.

Subscription and map quality review

I've been a user for about a year, this time renewing my Pro Subscription. The process was smooth online, and I got instant access. I mostly use it for cycling route maps and the GPS Route Planner. The topographic maps are really accurate, I've compared them to paper maps in a few areas and they hold up well. The BuddyBeacon Safety Feature is something I appreciate, especially when I'm out alone. I tried the Skyline Augmented Reality once, it was cool but not something I use regularly. My only minor gripe is sometimes searching for specific trailheads can be a little clunky in the app. Overall, it's a solid platform.

Good for hiking, small issue

I purchased the Pro+ Subscription after using the free version for a bit. The offline map downloads were a lifesaver on a recent trip to the Rockies. Route planning was straightforward. My only complaint is that the 3D map view sometimes lagged a bit on my phone, even with good service. Still, it's good value.

Thinking about getting Pro+. Does anyone know if there's usually a Black Friday deal for it? Or should I just jump on it now?

N Nathan Wright 1 week ago
Yeah, they almost always have something for Black Friday. I'd wait if you're not in a rush.

They definitely do Black Friday sales. I got my Pro annual membership discounted last year around then. Could be worth holding out.

Hey, wondering if the Pro+ subscription comes with like, actual paper maps you can print? Or is it all just digital?

M Mark Hernandez 4 weeks ago
Nah, it's all digital. You can print maps yourself from the platform but they don't send you anything physical.

They don't include paper maps with Pro+. You can use the print function on the website to make your own though, which is pretty handy.

Does anyone know if you can sync Outdooractive routes to a Garmin watch?

B Brittany Lewis 1 month ago
Yeah, you can export GPX files from Outdooractive and then upload them to your Garmin Connect. It's a bit manual but works.

You can export GPX and sync to Garmin, yeah. It's not a direct automatic sync like some other apps, you download the file and transfer it. Works fine though.

I have an old gift voucher from a while back, can I use it for a renewal of my Pro subscription?

E Eric Rivera 2 weeks ago
Vouchers are usually for new sign-ups, not renewals. I tried that once and it didn't work, unfortunately.

B Betty Jones 2 weeks ago
Nah, I don't think vouchers apply to renewals. They're typically for first-time subscriptions. You might be able to find a renewal discount separate from a voucher though.

I've been using Komoot for a while, but Outdooractive keeps popping up. Is it really that much better, especially for like, detailed hiking routes?

D Danielle Moore 3 weeks ago
For detailed hiking and especially those vector maps, I think Outdooractive is superior. Komoot is good but OA's topo maps feel more robust for serious routes.

R Rachel Mitchell 3 weeks ago
It depends. For just general cycling, Komoot is fine, but for really getting into the backcountry with mountaineering or ski touring, OA's maps and route planning feel more advanced to me. Plus the 3D view is sweet.
